Getting Involved
Buildings and Grounds
The B&G team makes sure that our Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, Meditation Garden, and cemeteries are well-maintained for us and future generations of our community. Projects include gardening and other special projects.
Christian Care
The Christian Care team provides spiritual and physical support to those in need. We may bring a meal to a family, transport someone to a medical appointment and, of course, pray for those with special requests!
Crafters and Baking Brigade
A team of crafty people make crafts and food for events such as the annual Fall Craft Fest and our Turkey Dinner. We work in groups and independently.
Fellowship & Fun
The mission of the Church Vitality Committee is to promote fellowship within the church family and the greater community through fun and educational activities. We want HCUCC to be a place where each of us feels welcome to deepen our relationship with God and each other.
The purpose of the fundraising arm of Church Vitality is to support the church’s values and principles by raising funds for the church’s operating expenses, missions, and special causes.
Faith Formation
The Faith Formation Committee nurtures and supports the spiritual growth and development of individuals within our church community by providing opportunities for learning, exploration, questioning, and transformation so that people may deepen their relationship with God and grow in their Christian faith. We feel learning is a life-long process. We offer programs for all age groups: *
- Nursery Program - for infants and toddlers, offered during church services
- Sunday School - for children in Preschool through 8th grade.
- Youth Group - for 4th grade and older, providing fellowship.
- Confirmation Classes - for 7th and 8th grade.
- Bible studies, book studies, and post-service or "second-hour" presentations - for adults
Family Support Group
The Family Support Group is for those who have a family member with mental health issues. Our meetings are posted on the Church Calendar.
Justice and Peace
The goals of the Justice and Peace Committee are to:
- Educate the congregation through special programs, book studies, and prayer.
- Promote creation justice and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
- Advocate for human rights, including women’s reproductive rights and rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
- Encourage democracy in action by postcarding and supporting other voting projects.
- Support peace initiatives for global conflicts
Mission
The Mission Committee supports those in need, both within and outside the US. For example, we:
- Prepare and serve a monthly lunch through the Bayshore Lunch Program in Keyport, NJ.
- Partner with other local churches to support the Calico Cat Food Pantry and Thrift Shop in Middletown, NJ, and the other missions of the Community Outreach Group.
- Prepare, package, and deliver individual meals to Family Promise in Oceanport, NJ.
- Participate in the annual Red Bank CROP Walk.
- Support Sylvia’s Children, a non-affiliated nonprofit that sponsors the Mbiriizi Advanced Primary and Day Care School in Uganda
Meditation - Visio Divina
Join us on Zoom, Saturdays at 10:00 am, for a refreshing hour that includes a short, guided meditation, creative prayers, poems, lively discussion on the art-quote word of the day, and a lot of laughter in a caring space. All are welcome!
Worship & Music
The Worship & Music Committee works collaboratively to plan and create dynamic and meaningful worship experiences that bring our church’s Mission Statement to life- to deepen our relationship with God, follow Jesus in service to our community, and work for justice and peace. We strive to make our services relevant to people, no matter where they find themselves in their spiritual journeys. We work together to convey the worship service themes through a blend of readings, sermons, music, art, and the children’s message, and work with the Pastor for memorial services, weddings, and other special services throughout the year.
