Commemorating the passion, suffering, and death of Jesus. The Tenebrae Service is a powerful and solemn service featuring scripture readings followed by the gradual extinguishing of candles which represents the abandonment of Jesus by his disciples and his increasing sorrow, ending in total darkness and silence to symbolize the burial of Christ.
